4-star WR Kris Abrams-Draine commits to Ole Miss over Tennessee

After snagging a commitment last week from three-star Tupelo product Jaycob Horn, wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler and the rest of the staff are off on a much-needed vacation while the dead period is going on.

Well, that “dead” period didn’t last long due to four-star quarterback Robby Ashford declaring on Monday. And now the nWo is getting in on the dead period action with another commitment now that Kris Abrams-Draine has decided he wants to flash the belt in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for the next three-to-four years.

The four-star wideout has verbally committed to the Rebels over the Tennessee Vols, joining Matt Luke’s #SHARKSEA20N movement with his in-state buddy Ashford. He’s also following in his brother’s footsteps.

His brother, Nick Williams, was a member of the Rebel basketball team from 2010-2013. He was a focal part of that SEC Tournament Championship squad that knocked off Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament. Now, his younger brother is heading to Oxford to make his mark, too.

The Spanish Fort, Ala. native and former LSU commit is the second receiver commitment with Horn in this year’s class and is a darn good one at that. The nation’s No. 62 receiver chose the nWo over notable offers from the aforementioned Vols and West Virginia, Florida State, Oregon, LSU, and Florida among others. Linebackers coach Jeff Koonz also assisted in his recruitment and Ole Miss snags yet another talented recruit from the Yellowhammer state.

Draine had a fantastic junior season for the Toros, snagging 44 receptions for 584 yards and 11 touchdowns. He totaled 941 all-purpose yards and three more touchdowns as well. This could potentially be the last receiver the Rebels take in this class after a terrific haul in 2019 and a loaded 2021 class to look forward to.

How does he fit in?

It’s no coincidence that the Rebels were competing with recruiting ace Tee Martin at Tennessee for Draine’s services. Martin can eye talent but, hell, so can I when I turn this film on. He jumps off the screen at you immediately. And despite being just 6’1 and 170-pounds, he is strong in one-on-one match-ups, can high-point the ball with relative ease, and reaches top-end speed quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Draine is a perfect slot receiver with his frame and speed. He will be a nightmare match-up for slower linebackers and strong safeties and should thrive in the Hot Rod offense. He’s got some wiggle in the open-field and possesses strong hands that come in handy when fighting for the football in traffic. He might need a year in the weight room to add some strength but there is no shortage of play-making ability with him whatsoever.
