Former Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly has signed with the Colts. Is this his last chance?

Former record-setting Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly went from being Sugar Bowl-winning signal caller to Mr. Irrelevant to really being forgotten after a rough stint in Denver.

But, all that has been forgiven for now, per Ian Rappoport, as the Indianapolis Colts have reportedly signed the Buffalo, N.Y. native. Despite the roster move by the AFC South team, the league is also reportedly looking into the situation and reviewing it.

Kelly was a two-year starter at Ole Miss after transferring in from Last Chance U a.k.a. East Mississippi Community College. Before going down with an ACL tear late in the 2016 season against Wofford, he torched the school record book, putting together a school-record streak 22 consecutive games with a touchdown pass. He also had 12(!) 300-yard passing games in just one and a half seasons, good for most in Ole Miss history.

Yes, that’s more than Eli Manning and the late, great Dr. Bo Wallace.

During the preseason, Chad was back on his bullshit under center, showing out and justifying his existence (waddup, A.K.) to the Broncos front office and head coach, Vance Joseph.

After Kelly set 25 school records during his “two” seasons in Oxford, he embarked on his journey to the NFL. To say it’s been a rocky one is burying the lede a bit. The newly-drafted Broncos QB was arrested following a team party last October “on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespassing after police allege that he randomly entered a couple’s home and was beaten by the homeowner with a vacuum-cleaner tube”, per the Denver Post.

After subsequently being released due to his actions, the quarterback has steadily been on the mend to repair not only his image but his game.

I mean, c’mon, my guy still has a damn cannon.

But, now it’s time to get back to work in the big boy lab in the NFL. Regardless of what happens with the league’s investigation into his suspension, he will be on a NFL roster and will be able to sit in the same position room as four-time Pro Bowl quarterback, Andrew Luck. If anything, he can learn under a dude who has been in the league going on seven years and start build rapport with not only the Colts front office, but the rest of the league who have doubted him since that night in October of 2018.

He will get to Indianapolis as the third-string quarterback behind the aforementioned Luck and former N.C. State quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Good on Chad for sticking it out, working his ass off, and getting another shot, but let’s hope that he knows this is more than likely his very last chance to make something happen in the league. And especially now with the AAF donezo and the XFL mostly still being a joke, this is arguably the last time for any sort of relevance.

In my opinion, this is definitely his last shot at holding onto a career in the NFL. And I like to think that Chad knows that, too. He has certainly burned several bridges and you have to think that he knows better than to do it again. Here’s to hoping that is the case.

But, the good news is we can now unlock the swag once again. Let’s get hype.
