Mississippi State Recruiting By Position: Wide Receivers

Creating huge, often, game-breaking plays on the offensive side of the ball is typically the role of the wide receiver position. The recruiting class that Coach Joe Moorhead and the Bulldogs staff have targeted is focused on taller wide receivers with the ability to out-jump opposing corners and safeties. Mississippi State has three wide receiver commits for the 2020 class, and we will look briefly at what each player will bring to the Bulldogs.

Malik Heath is the player that catches fans’ eyes right off the bat. Heath is a 4-star wide receiver out of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Mississippi State fans will love how physical Heath is against the opposing secondary. The physical tools Heath has and being able to go up and take the ball away from corners will make him a nightmare for opposing SEC defenses. With solid spring and summer camps, Heath has the potential to see some serious playing time when the Bulldogs take the field in 2020.

Caleb Ducking is the second recruit that we will examine. Ducking is a 6’5” wide receiver out of Rolling Fork, Mississippi. Ducking played at Holmes Community College this season and will provide the Mississippi State quarterbacks a huge target to throw to. Ducking’s route running is not as crisp as what fans have come to expect, but his size and athleticism make up for the route running. Ducking will be a red zone threat in Moorhead’s offense and will be a problem for the opposition, once he settles into the position.

Johnquarise Patterson is the final member of the 2020 wide receiver class that has committed to Mississippi State. Patterson is from Pearl, Mississippi, and played junior college ball at Holmes Community College. Patterson uses his hands and solid route running to make plays all over the field. Patterson creates separation with his route running, and his speed will be an excellent addition to the Mississippi State receiving corps.

National signing day is a week from Wednesday, and we will look at 2020 for the Bulldogs class position by position over the next few days. The 2021 class will also start to take shape, and I will present some targets from across the country to consider and keep an eye on.
