Action in the Face of a Changing Climate
For the past two months, the ramifications of climate change on daily life across the U.S. are abundant, from rampant wildfires across Western states to hurricane season revving up along the Eastern seaboard—all occurring under a continued public health crisis. While some accept this as the new normal, I prefer to see it as an ever-growing call to action: one that many leaders across the United States are answering.
At IMT, we continue to ask what role buildings play in protecting us both in times of crisis and in securing a healthy, livable future for all. This month's newsletter highlights cross-sector leadership as our team and partners take action through sound business practices and via policy.
IMT believes in building with and upon the work of others for maximum impact, so I'm excited to share a recent conversation with William Bryan of the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, who joined me on Zoom to talk about SEEA's work examining energy insecurity in the Southeast. To hear our thoughts on how policymakers, utilities and regulators, and advocacy organizations can use information to improve access to clean energy and better buildings, see the full link below. This week, IMT also announced the launch of the Building Innovation Hub, a much anticipated program that will help building industry professionals in the District identify trends in high-performance buildings, meet ambitious local building performance regulations, and draw connections that will make our buildings and city healthier and more efficient.
With each day, the urgency of climate action grows, and so does the need to help communities as thoughtfully as we can. It can be daunting, but your leadership and conversations give me hope. I hope they energize you, too.
Sincerely,
Lotte Schlegel, IMT
